Atlético Madrid are back up to sixth after a convincing 0-3 victory at Recreativo. Ex-Atlético keeper Abel Resino was in charge for the first time after moving from Castellón to replace Javier Aguirre midweek, and he saw his side take the lead in only the second minute when Agüero headed in Sinama-Pongolle's cross. A few minutes later Colunga went close on a rapid counter-attack, but midway through the first half Forlán made it two after running on to Agüero's through ball and turning a shot past Riesgo.

Shortly afterwards Pernía had to clear a corner off the line with the keeper beaten, but ten minutes before the break Forlán and Agüero combined again for the Uruguayan striker to score his second of the evening. Leo Franco did have some work to do after that, in particular saving from Colunga after the restart, but the result was never in danger. Atlético had clocked up their first win of the year, and the old adage of "new manager, sure victory" came true again. Will it last?
