Sevilla consolidated third spot with a 1-0 victory over Atlético Madrid in the last match on Saturday evening. Once again they left it late though, Jesús Navas getting the only goal three minutes from the end.

It could have been different if Forlán had been able to find the net rather than hitting the bar from two yards out from Simao's cross before the interval. Palop saved well from Maniche and from Maxi (following a set piece free kick) either side of half time, and Agüero (rested at the start for Tuesday's Champions League tie with Porto) also going close after coming on for the last twenty minutes.

Sevilla also had their chances, with Fazio and Navas in particular going close shortly before the break. But as they did in the cup against Valencia and Athletic Bilbao, and in the league against Espanyol, it was all settled in the final minutes. Better late than never?
