Mallorca beat Sporting Gijón 0-1 on Sunday night to climb above Osasuna out of the relegation zone. Michel should have opened the scoring for the locals when he missed the target from a couple of yards out, but Aduríz had a goal disallowed at the other end and Varela hit the bar with a long shot before the break. And four minutes after the restart Arango struck the winner from a free kick to take his side level with the Asturians in the table.
