Racing Santander took a big step towards ensuring another season in the top flight after beating Numancia 5-0. All the goals came before the interval, Oscar Serrano getting the first after Boris could only clear Toni Moral's cross as far as the winger. Midway through the first half Luccin opened his account for his new club with a long free kick which curled out of the reach of debutant keeper Keleman, and Zigic got in on the act with two in seven minutes, the first after Serrano set him up and the second after Felipe's header dropped to him.

Before half time Serrano netted his second of the night, and the match was more than over. But the chances continued after the restart, Serrano hitting the bar and Zigic heading over the top. Toño was finally called upon to keep out Barkero a couple of times, and Boris went close following a corner. But Numancia were well beaten, and they sink further down in to the drop zone as a result.
