Valencia moved back up to sixth after a 0-1 victory at Racing Santander, ending a run of six games without a win. The Chés got off to a shaky start though, and the home side felt themselves unlucky not to go in at the break ahead after failing to convert two or three chances. And the visitors were further up against it when Alexis was sent off a minute after the restart after picking up a rigorous second yellow card.

But substitute Mata got the only goal later on after Pablo set him up. and Oscar Serrano wasted a chance to save a point for the Cantabrians when he fired a last minute penalty against the crossbar after Raúl Albiol had fouled Jonathan Pereira inside the area.
