Sevilla kept up the pressure on the top two with a 4-1 victory over Valladolid on Saturday evening. Kanouté opened the scoring early on after picking up an assist from Romaric, but Pedro León was unlucky to be ruled offside when free on goal, and Goitom headed an equaliser from Canobbio's free kick soon afterwards.

The locals were dominating though, and Luis Fabiano had a penalty appeal turned down before Kanouté volleyed home a Jesús Navas cross to restore the lead shortly before the break.

Valladolid themselves felt they should have had a penalty when Dragutinovic brought down Goitom, but twelve minutes in to the second half Luis Fabiano ran on to Adriano's through ball to make it three. Five minutes later the striker headed against the post, and soon afterwards Kanouté completed his hat-trick to take the Andalusians to within six points of Real Madrid.
