With nine games to go any three of ten teams could go down, although Racing Santander distanced themselves from the relegation battle with a 0-2 win at Sporting Gijón in the last match on Sunday evening.

Both sides started the match level on points, and the locals had the better of the first half. Bilic heading against the post and Kike Mateo seeing his wide shot turned past the post by Toño.

The locals felt they should have had a penalty when the ball hit Sepsi on the hand shortly before half time, but ten minutes after the restart Zigic opened the scoring for the visitors when he turned in Sepsi's cross close to goal.

With a quarter of an hour to go Sporting thought they had equalised when Kike Mateo drilled a shot past Toño, but referee Ramírez Domínguez incorrectly ruled out the strike for a non-existent offside. And with the game in the final minute Colsa wrapped things up, battling past a couple of defenders to score his side's second.
