Sevilla consolidated third spot with a 0-1 win over neighbours Recreativo, who are now only a point above the drop zone pending Sunday's games. Romaric and Kanouté missed early chances for the visitors, but Maidana should have had his name on the scoresheet twice when he failed to convert two sitters in quick succession.

With just over half an hour gone though Sevilla were awarded a penalty when Poli tripped Renato, and Kanouté stepped up to score his eleventh in eight games. Riesgo had to save from Romaric, Navas and Kanouté either side of half time, and Koné headed a Navas cross just wide later in the second half. They had done enough to win though, and the locals ended with ten men after Aitor picked up a second yellow card near the end.
