Valencia moved back up in to the top four after a 2-3 win at Sporting Gijón, their third victory in a row. David Silva started things off with an impressive opener, cutting across the front of the area past two or three defenders before curling a shot wide of Lafuente.

Barral equalised from the penalty spot after Raúl Albiol fouled Camelo inside the area shortly before half time, but ex Sporting striker David Villa converted a second penalty against his old side after Mata was brought down soon after the restart.

Bilic made it all square again, heading a cross from Diego Castro down past César. But Mata ran through to score the winner near the end, and César saved a late effort from Barral to ensure the three points for his side. Sporting have yet to draw this season, and they ended the weekend just one place above the drop zone.
