Espanyol moved off the bottom of the table with a 1-0 victory over Racing Santander, and they are now only five points away from escaping the drop zone after picking up seven points from their last three games.

Backed by a large crowd the Catalans had the better chances in the first half, Jarque bringing a good save out of Coltorti and Tamudo missing from close up.

Pochettino's side took the lead though twelve minutes in to the second half, Iván Alonso getting above the defence to head Nené's long free kick past the keeper. And they could have won by a bigger amount in the end, Marcano heading away from under the bar a dangerous cross-come-shot from Nené.
