Villarreal returning to fifth place after a controversial 2-1 win over Recreativo, their first victory in the league in four games. Camuñas took advantage of some slack defending to nip in between a couple of defenders and give the Andalusians the lead in the first minute. But Llorente caught out Riesgo with a lob in off the bar from a wide angle to equalise shortly before the break, referee González Vázquez waving away claims for a possible offside.

The controversy came though midway through the second half when González ruled that Cani's chip had crossed the line before Lamas hooked it away, even though the linesman who confirmed the goal was unsighted. A few minutes later the referee made a mistake in the other direction, ruling out a goal from a Nihat free kick for the positional offside of Godín who was not interfering in the play. The defeat left Recre further down in the relegation spots.
