Atlético Madrid moved up to within a point of the Champions League spots after a 0-2 victory over Betis in the last game on Sunday evening. With Agüero left on the bench it was up to Diego Forlán to open the scoring after Maxi set him up on the quarter hour mark.

Capi could have equalised close to half time when he lobbed over the bar, and Raúl García headed wide soon after the restart. Juanito hit the bar following a corner and Edu headed just wide, and Leo Franco had to be at his best to save from Oliveira.

But with the game coming to an end substitute Luis García set up Forlán for him to score his second of the night and Betis were beaten. The defeat leaves the Andalusians just three points above the relegation spots, and it looks as if they are going to suffer this season right down to the wire.
