Mallorca ended the weekend in the top four after beating Xerez 2-0. The first division debutants started well, and they looked most likely to score until new signing Gioda was sent off for a second bookable offence shortly before the interval.

Cuco Ziganda reorganised his defence, but with just under an hour gone Aduríz ran through to get in front of of Renan and head Tuni's cross in to the net. Aouate had to save from Carlos Calvo a minute or so later, but play went up the other end and Tuni scored his side's second with a shot which seemed to deflect up off a defender.

That was about it, and Xerez ended with nine men after rookie referee Estrada Fernández also showed a second yellow card to Calvo. Nobody said it was going to be easy for the new boys, but they will at least give it their best shot.
