Valencia lost ground on the leaders after they were held to a 2-2 draw by ten man Sporting Gijón. Barral caught out Moyà with a shot inside the near post to open the scoring early on, but David Villa equalised a few minutes later after Juan Pablo could only block a shot from David Silva.

Michel was sent off for the visitors after picking up a second booking for a silly hand ball just a minute after Villa's goal, and when Villa scored his second of the night with a clever lob on the hour mark it appeared to be all over. However Gregory saved a point for the Asturians with just four minutes to go, heading in from close up after Gerard had beaten Moyà to Rivera's wide free kick.
