La Liga debutants Xerez picked up their first point ever in the top flight after a 0-0 draw at Espanyol, although they remain at the foot of the table without a single goal to their name to date. The home side came in to the game full of confidence after two wins in four days, and Renan had to make important saves from Callejón and Iván Alonso before the break. But the Andalusians came back after the restart, and Mario Bermejo almost won it when he headed Carlos Calvo's cross against the bar later on.
