Sevilla could drop out of the Champions League spots after a 2-1 defeat at Valladolid in the first of the midweek round of matches. Veteran coach Javier Clemente has injected life in to his new side after taking over from Onésimo just under a week ago, and they should have been well ahead by the break, with Nauzet in particular hitting the bar and failing to convert another chance. With three minutes to go to half time though Diego Costa headed Nauzet's free kick past Palop, and a few minutes after the restart Costa set up Manucho for him to score the second. Cala got one back with an impressive shot in to the far top corner of the net though, and only a last minute save from Jacobo prevented Jesús Navas from equalising.
