Racing Santander moved away from the danger zone after a 3-1 win over Espanyol, the victory taking them to within two points of their opponents in the table.

Iván Alonso put the visitors ahead on the half hour mark, pulling down a long ball to beat Coltorti with a shot on the turn. The Cantabrians had not scored in their Sardinero stadium in five games, but they made it all square shortly before half time when Tchité converted a penalty after Roncaglia brought down the striker.

Five minutes after the restart Munitis got past Roncaglia again only to come up against Kameni, the veteran forward having to leave the field with a serious ligament injury after tumbling over the keeper. Kameni was red-carded by Fernández Borbolán despite his protests of innocence, and Tchité stepped up to drive home his second spot kick past substitute keeper Cristian Alvarez.

After that Callejón came close to equalising, but with the game coming to an end Arana ran through to score his side's third and wrap things up. .
