Getafe stayed on track for a place in the Europa League after a 2-1 victory over Málaga on Saturday evening. News that their close rivals Villarreal were two up against Valencia spurred them on, and with just under half an hour on the clock Soldado picked up a pass from Gavilán and ran on to clip a shot between Munúa and a defender.

Soldado would have increased the lead minutes after the restart had Munúa not produced a brilliant save, but Fernando should probably have scored at the other end when he fired wide with the goal at his mercy. The visitors felt they should have had a penalty when Rafa handled in the area, but soon afterwards Pedro León picked up the ball on a quick counter-attack and caught out the keeper with a high shot from outside of the area.

With a last match at home to Real Madrid, Málaga needed a result, and Duda fired a free kick just over the bar. And with the game going in to stoppage time Fernando got on the end of another Duda free kick to head past Codina.

There was no time for more though, and caught up in a four way tie for next to bottom spot, Juan Ramón Muñiz's side will be down unless then can pick up something against Madrid. Getafe are on a high, but they still need points against city rivals Atlético next weekend. Not a couple of days for the faint-hearted!
