Real Madrid's record breaking 31st victory of the season may come to nothing as Barcelona also won away at Sevilla. Pellegrini's side stay a point behind their arch-rivals, and now have to win their last match at Málaga and hope for a slip by Barça if they are to overtake them in the table.

Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring midway through the first half with a controversial penalty after Higuaín's shot hit Amorebieta on the arm from point blank range, referee Muñiz Fernández further upsetting the visitors by sending off the defender. But Yeste equalised after an impressive run shortly before half time, and it was not until news came in that Sevilla were fighting back that Madrid finally woke up.

After that though they ran riot, Higuaín heading them back in to the lead and Sergio Ramos and Benzema adding two more in the next four minutes. And with the game coming to a close Marcelo scored his side's fifth to take this most exciting of championships down to the wire.
