Second division B play-offs

The league stage of the four regional groups ended today, with the top four of each group qualifying for the play-offs for promotion to the second division A. Teams will be divided into four leagues of four on a cross-regional basis at tomorrow's draw, and the winners of each league will be promoted. The sides qualifying were as follows:

Group I: Pontevedra, Racing Ferrol, Celta B, Ourense;
Group II: Atlético B, Real Madrid B, Mirandés, Cultural Leonesa;
Group III: Lleida, Lorca, Gimnastic Tarragona, Castellón;
Group IV: Lanzarote, Pájaras Playas Jandía, Sevilla B, Badajoz. (16.05.04)

The four cross-regional groups were made up as follows (see links for fixtures, results and match reports):

Group A: Lleida, Playas Jandía, Celta B, Cultural Leonesa
Group B: Pontevedra, Lorca, Mirandés, Badajoz
Group C: Atlético Madrid B, Racing Ferrol, Sevilla B, Castellón
Group D: Lanzarote, Real Madrid B, Gimnastic Tarragona, Ourense

Each team will play home and away over a period of six weeks, and the winner of each group will be promoted to the second division A. (17.05.04)

Four teams from each of the four regional groups were relegated, and the four teams finishing fifth from bottom in each group will play off to avoid the one remaining relegation spot. They will be replaced by 17 sides who win through the division three play-offs (top four of each of the 17 regional groups to take part), which this year will be on a straight knock out basis. The sides relegated were as follows (subject to relegations for financial reasons which will be decided at the end of July):

Group I: Racing Santander B, Calahorra, Caudal, Avilés;
Group II: Casetas, Toledo, Compostela, Majadahonda;
Group III: Valencia B, Mataró, Yeclano, Palamos;
Group IV: Cacereño, Mérida, Villanovense, Los Palacios.

The draw for the relegation play-off threw together the following fixtures: Peña Sport v Sabadell; Alcalá v Betis B. Teams will play over two legs, with the losers playing each other to avoid going down. (17.05.04)

Results were as follows:

Semi-finals first leg, 23rd May:
Peña Sport 1-1 Sabadell
Betis B 1 - 2 Alcalá .

Semi-finals second leg leg, 30th May:
Sabadell 3-1 Peña Sport
Alcalá 2-0 Betis B.

Final first leg leg, 6th June:
Betis B 1-2 Peña Sport

Final second leg leg, 13th June:
Peña Sport 1-0 Betis B

Betis B are relegated.
