Pichichis
Deportivo's Diego Tristán took advantage of an injury to Roy Makaay to score his second hat-trick of the season against Real Sociedad. Tristán has had little opportunity since Makaay returned from an early season injury, but staked his claim for a regular first team place. Catanha also moved up our chart to joint fourth with a couple of vital goals this week. First of all he got the away goal that Celta needed to qualify for the semi-finals of the cup, and then he scored the last minute winner in their weekend league match at Espanyol. The only other Pichichis to get goals this week were Valencia's Juan Sánchez and Mendieta, who helped their side to their first victory in a month. None of the top three could add to their tally, with Real Madrid and Barcelona both losing their league games at the weekend. Neither Kluivert nor Rivaldo have scored in the league in the last four games. The cup competition is now shelved until June, but European tournaments resume this week, with seven Spanish teams still competing. (12.02.01)
