With
European football curtailed by the events in the United States, there were few
goals this week. Once again the league program was low scoring with only 21 in
the ten games, only one more than last week. Casas kept his top spot after
scoring once again, this time in the victory over Real Madrid, and he is joined
in the table by under 21 international Joaquín, who also scored in that
match. Urzaiz moves into second place with his third goal in the league, and
Bilbao are starting to be a force to be reckoned with after several seasons
floundering in mid-table. They beat a sleepy Deportivo side who only reacted
when two goals down. Diego Tristán did get one back though, his second
of the season. Tenerife's Marioni was the only player to score twice this
weekend, with the first coming from the penalty spot against Villarreal, the
team he played for last season, as his side picked up their first points of the
season. A penalty too for Espanyol's prodigal son and sometimes male model
Quique De Lucas, although it was little use as they lost at home to Sevilla.
Nico Olivera got the winner in the match, and José Antonio Reyes, who
has only just celebrated his 18th birthday, scored the opening goal.
