If things go on like this
José Antonio Camacho will be spoilt for choice for his next
international squad. Most of his top Spanish strikers got on the scoresheet
this week, with Diego Tristán the pick of the bunch with his two superb
goals which took Depor to the top of the table. Salva got Valencia's first at
Barcelona, Urzaiz got the consolation goal against Valladolid and Catanha got
two, one in the Spanish cup and one in the league. The only ones who didn't add
to their tally for once were Real Madrid's Raúl and Morientes, but
teammate Guti more than made up for them with a hat-trick in the copa del rey.
And if Camacho doesn't like any of that lot, there are a couple of youngsters
who are making their mark, such as Zaragoza's Yordi who has six to his name in
all competitions, Real Sociedad's Gabilondo who has scored in the last three
games, or Valladolid's Tote, whose hat-trick at Bilbao this weekend probably
left Del Bosque regretting that he let him leave Madrid on loan this summer.
Goals from foreign players
were few and far between then as the locals shined. Rivaldo came back from
international duty to get a late penalty in the Champions League midweek after
Kluivert had opened the scoring, but the Brazilian star looked tired, and after
being booed by his own fans he decided together with his manager to rest his
injured knee and not play at the weekend. Saviola took his place and got his
fourth of the season, level with fourteen others including Celta's Edú
and Villarreal's Palermo, who came on to save the day in his club's cup tie.
Sevilla's Nico Olivera moved to the top of the league's Pichichi chart with
five goals after scoring from the penalty spot for the third game in a row and
the fourth time this season, taking over from his city rival Casas who has not
scored in five games.. (15.10.01) |
