Diego Tristán was the
man most on form this week with five goals in eight days, including two in the
Champions League against Manchester United and another at the weekend against
Sevilla to keep Depor top of the league. Barcelona's Kluivert and Luis Enrique
both scored in the Champions League victory over Bayer Leverkusen, and Rivaldo
got the only goal in their draw at Málaga. Darío Silva replied
for the Andalucian side, his fourth of the season. A hat-trick for Mostovoi in
Celta's UEFA cup match against Slovan Liberec was enough to give them a useful
lead for the second leg, and Catanha added to his total at the weekend to earn
a point against Real Madrid. Madrid's goal in that game came from Guti, his
first in the league but his fifth in all competitions.
Talking of Real Madrid there
was some debate as to whom scored their opening goal in their Champions League
game at Anderlecht. UEFA attributed the strike initially to Raúl, but he
did not appear to touch the ball and from TV pictures it seems that Ilic
deflected the ball in from Roberto Carlos past his own keeper. We have included
it for now as an Ilic own goal, although some reports gave it to Roberto Carlos
as the last Madrid player to touch the ball. In the battle for the Pichichi of
the league, Catanha and Tristán join Olivera on five, with a large group
of players on four including Villarreal's Martín Palermo, who got his
team's goal against Betis on Saturday. (22.10.01) |
