Diego Tristán was not
supposed to play in the midweek cup match at , but in the end he was forced to
come on for the injured Pandiani early in the first half. Needless to say he
was their saviour, scoring two late goals to take them through to the third
round, and at the same time taking top spot in our chart. He is now one ahead
of Raúl, who poached another goal at the weekend, the second he has
scored in a week within inches of the line with the ball on its way in. A good
thing that Morientes is a good chap, but he got his reward earlier anyway with
his eighth in six matches. Neither of them played in the Spanish cup midweek,
which gave Guti the opportunity to add to his total in that competition.
The man of the week though
was Urziaz, who scored the winner in the cup at Toledo and then followed it up
with a couple at the weekend to take his side to fourth. He is now the league's
top scorer with eight. Yordi got another in that game, his ninth in all
competitions. Celta's youngsters Edú and Jesuli continue to demonstrate
that Karpin, Mostovoi et al are well covered if they decide to move on.
"Jesulinho" got his sixth of the season, and then Edú went one better
with two goals in as many minutes. Another young striker, Mallorca's Luque,
also showed he is back on form with his fourth in the last three league
matches. (03.12.01) |
