Diego Tristán and
Raúl open up a three goal gap over the rest of the pack after both
adding to their totals this week. Tristán scored his team's winner from
the penalty spot in the battle of two of the league's giants, Deportivo and
Valencia, and Raúl got a pair of opportunist goals in the second half of
Champions League game with Panathinaikos. They are followed by a trio (or a
trident?) of Barcelona players, with Saviola joining Kluivert and Rivaldo after
scoring three times in the week, two in the Champions League to lead the
comeback against Galatasaray, and another in the league against Celta. Saviola
will be 20 tomorrow, and he looks a good bet for the future. So though does,
Edu, who got his eighth of the season in the same match, which he started as
centre forward to the detriment of Catanha.
Urzaiz kept up his lead as
the league's Pichichi though with his ninth league goal in Bilbao's exciting
come back at Sevilla. He is one ahead of Tristán and two in front of
several players, including Moisés, who also scored in that game. Tamudo
comes in to the chart for the first time with his sixth of the season as his
side picked up a draw at Villarreal, and Figo also improves his position in the
table with a controversial last minute penalty at Tenerife, his fifth spot kick
success of the season. Below the top spots two players got a couple of goals
each at the weekend in what was otherwise a low scoring round of games.
Rubén Navarro kept Alavés at the top of the table with two, the
second of which was surely the goal of the week, and Sevilla's Reyes shook off
his fear of being bitten to get a brace in the aforementioned 3-3 draw with
Bilbao. (10.12.01) |
