Raúl went further
ahead of the pack with another goal this week, this time in Real Madrid's 4-0
cup victory over Rayo Vallecano. The other three scorers were Roberto Carlos,
Zidane and Figo (who they?). None of them are likely to play in the second leg
next week though, with the tie already in the bag. Raúl didn't add to
his total at the weekend against Valencia, but Morientes did to give them a
narrow victory and a four point lead at the top of the table. Barcelona's
'trident' are taking it in turns to score, and this week it was the turn of
Rivaldo, who had not got his name on the scoresheet since November. He scored
twice against Sevilla and missed a penalty in between to give his side their
second victory in a row, something not very common these days.
Diego Tristán is out
of favour with his manager and his fans, and he has lost his place to Roy
Makaay recently. Makaay got one of Deportivo's goals in their cup victory
against Valladolid midweek and started the game against the same side in the
league at the weekend. This time they were less successful though despite the
appearance of Tristán in the second half, with Fernando scoring twice in
their 3-0 win. Fernando joins the group on seven goals, as does Zidane and
Villarreal's Víctor, who scored from the penalty spot this week.
Elsewhere Luque got his ninth of the season in all competitions in Mallorca's
game at Las Palmas. The best performance over the last seven days though must
surely be that of Bilbao's young midfielder Tiko, who scored twice in the cup
and got two more spectacular goals on Saturday to give the Lions their first
home win against Basque rivals Real Sociedad in nine years.
