For the first time in
several weeks Raúl did not add to his total, but he is still well clear
at the top of our chart. Diego Tristán did catch one up on him though
with his tie winning penalty in the cup at Valladolid, a relief for the Spanish
international striker who has not scored since week 16. Valladolid's Fernando,
on loan from Real Madrid, scored in that match to add to the two he got against
Depor in the league the weekend before, and he is the only new entry in our
table this week. Raúl's team mate Morientes did get another goal, saving
a point for his side and taking him on to eleven in all competitions, including
nine now in the league. Luque also got his ninth league goal at the weekend,
two behind the new league Pichichi Celta's Brazilian born Spanish international
Catanha, who took his tally to eleven. It is worth noting that of the top nine
goalscorers, six are Spanish, with the only foreigners Barcelona's trident of
Kluivert, Rivaldo and Saviola. Other outstanding performances this week were
the return to form of Sevilla's Nico Olivera, who scored two goals to take his
total for the season to seven, and two as well for Villarreal's under-21
international Guayre to save a point for his side. His new team mate Pizzi also
got his first goal since returning to Spain, but unlucky for him it was in his
own net. Things can only get better from here on! (21.01.02) |
