Last
week it was Kluivert with his four goals who made the headlines. This week
Morientes went one better putting five past Nacho González in Real
Madrid's 7-0 thrashing of Las Palmas. Four of his goals came from headers and
all five came from crosses from the right wing, four from Figo and one from
Miñambres. Don't Las Palmas have a left back? The Spanish international
striker equals a club record which was last achieved by Puskas back in 1961,
and he could have even set a new all time best for Real Madrid if he hadn't
missed a penalty in the last minute. Morientes heads the league Pichichi table
with fifteen goals, four ahead of the pack, and it is difficult to see anyone
catching him. Raúl was out with an injury, and Zidane got one of the
other two goals in the match to come back in to our chart with nine in all
competitions. Other than that it was the lowest scoring weekend of the season,
with only eleven goals in the other nine matches. Only one of our top strikers
added to his tally, Sevilla's Moisés, who scored from the penalty spot
at Tenerife. (11.02.02) |
