Catanha features in both the
heros and villains sections this week after being let off a two match ban by
the appeals committee on Friday afternoon and then scoring a hat-trick at the
weekend. The Hispano-Brazilian striker got his first goals in eight matches to
take his side back up to the top six, a great performance but a b*gger if you
took him out of your fantasy football side on Friday lunchtime. He moves up to
third place in the league's Pichichi race, behind Morientes and Kluivert and
level with Raúl, who scored in the league on Saturday but also got
another earlier in the week in the Cup Final, making him joint top scorer in
that competition together with his teammate Guti on six apiece (not counting
the three he got in the Spanish Supercup). Raúl would have gladly given
up his goal for a piece of the silverware, but his team were defeated by
Deportivo, for whom Diego Tristán scored the winning goal.
Tristán was rested at the weekend though for next Tuesday's Champions
League game at Arsenal, and his side were held to a draw by Rayo Vallecano,
with Bolic levelling the scores with his tenth of the season. Elsewhere one of
the many Real Madrid youngsters on loan this season, Valladolid's Fernando, got
another two to take his total for the season to twelve, although with Catanha
on the other side of the park it was not enough to even give them a point. The
match finished 4-2, as did the one between Mallorca and Osasuna, with the home
side's Camerooni striker Eto'o celebrating his 21st birthday with two goals
before half time, taking his tally for the season in all competitions to nine.
