Spain's manager José Antonio Camacho has to look no
further than the top of the goalscorers' chart to find his first choice
selection for the World Cup, with Raúl and Diego Tristán heading
up the table and Morientes in fourth place. Raúl didn't get his name on
the scoresheet in the Nou Camp this weekend, although he did come very close
two or three times and stays on top of our rankings. The gap though is now down
to two goals after Diego Tristán's first hat-trick of the season at
Osasuna, the young striker getting all three in the first half hour of the
game. Morientes was dropped for the game at Barcelona despite heading the
league's Pichichi table, his place being taken by Guti who had scored in the
Champions League midweek. Madrid's only goal though came from Zidane, and both
he and Guti come back in to our rankings this week. Another candidate for this
summer is Bilbao's Urzaiz, a firm favourite of Camacho's, and with the manager
due to announce his squad for next week's friendly against Holland, he scored a
timely goal in the Basque derby at Alavés. It was his first in three
months though, and Camacho was probably more impressed by Tiko, who scored for
the fourth time this season from a direct free kick in the same match. Celta's
Catanha seems to be out of running, although he too could have an outside
chance after scoring his fourth in two games in his side's victory against Las
Palmas. Mostovoi set him up for that one, and then scored himself to take his
season total to eleven, the same number as Valladolid's young midfielder
Fernando, who is in line for a recall to Real Madrid this summer after his good
form on loan to the Castillian side. (18.03.02) |
