Another low scoring weekend, with only 22 goals in the ten
league matches. Seven of those came in one game, with Villarreal scoring five
in the first half against Athletic Bilbao, including two from Víctor,
who comes back in to our chart this week. Bilbao replied with two after the
break, including a penalty from Urzaiz, his third goal in consecutive matches.
That is nothing though compared with Catanha, who got his sixth in four matches
to move to the top of the league's Pichichi chart on 17 goals, one more than
Morientes and Kluivert. Morientes played for Spain this week, as did
Raúl and Diego Tristán, and although they didn't get a goal
between them against Holland, the three are favourites for Camacho's World Cup
squad. There may be one place left for a fourth striker, and Espanyol's Tamudo
put in his claim for the position with his thirteenth league goal of the
season. It did little good for his side though, who lost 2-1 to Mallorca thanks
to goals from Luque (his twelfth of the season) and earlier on from Eto'o, his
tenth in all competitions and his 23rd for Mallorca in the first division, a
new club record. (01.04.02) |
