A
quiet and rather tense weekend after last week's record haul. Only 21 goals in
all from the ten games, all of which kicked off at the same time on Sunday
evening. Any doubt about this season's Pichichi was dissipated by Diego
Tristán, who scored two at Betis to move on to 21 in the league and 32
in all competitions, and only a minor miracle by Raúl, Morientes or
Kluivert can catch him in either field. Last year's Pichichi Raúl will
have two chances though to make up the four goal overall gap, and he came good
at the right time last Wednesday, scoring his first club goal for some time in
the Champions League tie against eternal rivals Barcelona to take his side to
another final. Kluivert didn't get on the scoresheet then, but he did in the
local derby against Espanyol at the weekend to move level with Morientes on 18
in the league, three behind Tristán. The only other of our top
goalscorers to add to his tally was Mostovoi, although his early strike was not
enough to give his side victory and they may have to make do once again with a
place in the UEFA cup. (06.05.02) |
