An amazing week for Roy
Makaay, who followed up his two goals last weekend with a hat-trick in the
Champions League victory at Bayern Munich on Wednesday and two more goals at
home to Valladolid on Saturday. He moves ahead of Dely Valdés at the top
of our chart.
A hat-trick too for Julio
Alvarez, including two penalties, makes him one of the surprise leaders this
week. He has five in the league, level with Makaay and also Kovacevic, who
scored two in the thrilling draw with Betis. Capi got two and Alfonso another
in reply.
Alfonso also scored in
Europe midweek, as did Luis Enrique, who got another at the weekend to make him
Barcelona's top scorer with five goals in all. Guti got two in Real Madrid's
impressive win at Roma, and Iván Helguera scored a couple in the league
against Osasuna, including a backheel flick reminiscent of one of Di Stefano's
finest.
Atlético's young
striker Fernando Torres is proving he can mix it with the best at the top
level, and his two goals at Mallorca helped his side to their first win of the
season. And finally Iván Alonso spoilt Benito Floro's return to Spain
with the winning goal for Alavés, his third of the season in the league.
