A low scoring week, both in
Europe midweek and in the league at the weekend. The eight Spanish teams
playing in international competitions only managed eleven goals between them
with mixed results, although all have a good chance of reaching the next round
of their respective competitions. Roy Makaay's last minute goal against Bayern
Munich knocked the German giants out of Europe and extended the Dutch striker's
lead at the top of the Pichichi table, and Dely Valdés' seventh goal in
Europe this season helped his side to a belaboured victory and kept him in
second place.
A record low 18 goals in the
ten first division matches this weekend, and that includes a hat-trick for
Mallorca striker Pandiani, his first goals since joining on loan from
Deportivo. Nihat kept Real Sociedad at the top of the division with his sixth
of the season, taking him level with his injured colleague Kovacevic. Fernando
Torres returned to our chart after scoring his third penalty of the season, and
Racing's Javi Guerrero makes his first appearance after scoring his fifth of
the current campaign in the first minute against Barcelona.
