Pichichis

Goals returned to the first division this week, 28 of them, almost as many as were scored in the last two weekends put together. The week started though with the Toyota cup in Tokyo, where Ronaldo paid back part of his transfer fee with the opening goal to put Real Madrid on their way to be crowned inter-continental champions. He got two more at the weekend as Del Bosque's side thrashed high-flying Mallorca, and with six in all competitions it should not be long before he makes it into our charts. Raúl too has got his scoring boots on after a slow start to the season for him, and he also got a brace at Mallorca to rejoin the top Pichichis this week. Don't forget Guti though, currently playing the role of super-sub, and he got a goal in each game in the few minutes he was on the pitch to keep ahead of all of his club colleagues in the table.

The rest of the goals at the weekend were fairly spread out, with Betis getting four at Espanyol (including two from Fernando) and Osasuna three at Athletic. Urzaiz's header for the home side in that game was of little help. Fernando Torres did hit a winner though for Atlético Madrid, and last year's Pichichi Diego Tristán also got his seventh of the season to feature for the first time in the statistics. Walter Pandiani's run of eight goals in five games came to an end though. All he could do was get himself sent off. (10.12.02)
