Roy Makaay moved further
ahead of the bunch with his twentieth of the season at Atlético Madrid.
The Dutch striker is making a habit of scoring against the Colchoneros; this
was his eighth in seven games. However this time it did little good as Fernando
Torres turned it on in the last twenty minutes to score his own tenth of the
season and then set up Correa for another to win the game. Torres is currently
lying fourth equal in the league Pichichi chart, behind Makaay and the twin
terrors at Real Sociedad, Kovacevic and Nihat, both of whom scored again this
weekend to help their side fight back from two down at Valencia and keep up
their incredible unbeaten record this season.
One re-entry in the chart
this week, Joaquín, who thought he had scored a last minute winner until
Alavés went down the other end and equalised, and one new entry, a young
chap by the name of Ronaldo. Yes, "el fenómeno" is back, and the way he
appears to be settling in to the side alongside Raúl, Zidane and Figo is
sending shivers up the spines of the opponents. When all four are playing there
is no room for Guti, but he too is scoring at every chance he can, adding two
more to his tally in the cup midweek to take his total in all competitions to
eleven. Talking of the cup, Pandiani got his scoring boots back on after four
games without a goal, and having got one against Valladolid in the "copa del
rey" midweek, he added another in the league at Rayo on Sunday. .
