No club matches midweek, but
Raúl did get himself into the record books on Wednesday night when he
became Spain's all-time top scorer at the ripe young age of 25. The Real Madrid
striker's two goals against Germany, including his first penalty for a long
time after a couple of famous misses, takes him on to 31 goals, two ahead of
his team mate at Madrid Fernando Hierro. Talking of team mates, Guti got the
third for Spain to keep it in the family.
Once again Roy Makaay got
his name on the scoresheet at the weekend, hitting Deportivo's winning goal at
Valladolid with a spectacular flying sort of leap and sidefoot thingy (sorry,
not really sure how to describe it). It was his 16th in the league and his 25th
in all competitions, which must put him in the running for the golden boot this
season. Nihat's golden boots were in action too at the weekend, the Turkish
forward hitting two as Real Sociedad came back against Betis. Unfortunately for
his side though, a last minute penalty by stand-in striker Fernando, his second
goal of the game, gave the three points to the locals.
Fernando's two strikes takes
him level with the group of players on nine goals (see last week's chart for
details). Curiously Celta's Edu emulated him the day after, the young
midfielder also stepping in to the centre forward spot due to the lack of
reliable candidates, and scoring with two headers to take his tally to nine in
all competitions. Joseba Etxeberría joins them as well after scoring a
brilliant goal against top keeper Notario. (19.02.03) |
