It was that man Roy Makaay
again who took the honours this weekend, his two goals against Sevilla taking
him so far clear of the rest that he could retire for the rest of the season
and still take the Pichichi prize. He will not be able to do so though as his
team mate Diego Tristán picked up an injury in a friendly match midweek
and will be out for a month or so. In fact it has not been a good week in that
respect, with Fernando Torres and Tamudo also picking up hamstring injuries,
and Raúl coming down with appendicitis on Monday. Iñaki
Sáez will have problems picking a side to play Ecuador next week, and
Urzaiz could even be back in the running after scoring his first goal in
thirteen weeks a few days ago. Otherwise Morientes could get a
recall?
The Real Sociedad front
pairing of Nihat and Kovacevic are the only ones to put the pressure on Makaay,
and this weekend it was Nihat's turn with two goals to take him above his team
mate in the table. Many clubs are watching him, including Manchester United,
although Real will want to hold on to their stars if they do qualify for the
Champions League next season. Real Madrid's Ronaldo is just behind them in the
league Pichichi race after he scored against his old club Barcelona, a feat
which was reciprocated by Luis Enrique a few minutes later. Elsewhere
Mallorca's Eto'o got his third in two games to move up to join the group of
players with eleven goals in all competitions. (23.04.03) |
