Pichichis

At the risk of becoming monotonous, congratulations again to Roy Makaay for another three goals this weekend. Alright, it did include a penalty, but the second volleyed goal was one of his best of the season, and he is now out in front in the race for the European "Golden Boot". With Tristán and now Luque both injured, he should have a free rein in the next few weeks to add to that total.

Ronaldo kept up his push for second spot, and he has announced that he wants 30 in all this season. Just seven more to go. There was some talk that he would be kept in reserve for the Juventus game, with Spain's midweek hat-trick hero Fernando Morientes getting a run out, but Del Bosque decided to stick to the side he new despite Ronaldo's long trip to play for Brazil. They ran out of steam at half time though, and Mallorca broke the record books with five in the second half, including one each from Pandiani and Eto'o, who was given a standing ovation by his ex fans when he left the field.

Elsewhere Barcelona's Saviola kept up his good record under Antic with a last minute goal against Rayo, although Kluivert couldn't score for love nor money and was booed by some fans. He was linked with Manchester United by none other than Van Nistelrooy, and could be on his way in the summer. Betis makeshift centre forward Fernando got another against Barça's neighbours Espanyol, but it was cancelled out in the dying minutes by a late goal from their opponents. (06.05.03)
