European football midweek,
where Ronaldo scored the opening goal in the Champions League semi-final
against Juventus to send Real Madrid on their way to a possible tenth European
cup title (second leg permitting). Another low scoring weekend though, with
only 16 goals in all and no less than four games ending scoreless. Only Real
Sociedad scored more than two goals, Kovacevic winning a penalty and scoring
one himself at Mallorca to take his side up to joint top with Deportivo. Eto'o
did get one back for the home side later in the match, the fifth week in a row
he has got his name on the scoresheet, and scouts from Liverpool were no doubt
suitably impressed. Elsewhere Fernando saved a point for Betis at Rayo, and
Javi Guerrero got his thirteenth of the season from one of the penalty spots at
the Balaidos stadium. Finally Donato became only the second person to score in
the first division at the ripe young age of forty (he was actually the first as
well) as Depor won at Málaga. (13.05.03) |
