Pichichis

"Roy The Boy" lost a great chance to extend his lead as Europe's number one Pichichi when he missed a last minute penalty against Celta this weekend. Not that it mattered much as he is already way clear of anyone else and his side were three goals down by then (with two from makeshift striker Edu). Ronaldo did take the opportunity however to close the gap on Makaay with two goals at the weekend, passing his own objective of 25 goals for the season and taking Real Madrid temporarily to the top of the table. Twenty four hours later though Real Sociedad moved back above them, Kovacevic scoring his nineteenth of the season in a 0-2 win at Málaga.

It was another high scoring weekend, with 32 goals in all in the ten games. Fernando Torres signalled his return from injury with two well struck goals, giving his side a win against Villarreal, and Kluivert and Saviola both added to their tallies as Barcelona beat struggling Recreativo. Atlético and Barcelona are both in with a shout of the last UEFA spot, although they will have to pass current incumbents Athletic Bilbao to do so. They won again thanks to a last minute penalty from Urzaiz. Sevilla kept up their challenge too with a 1-3 win at Mallorca, Spanish under 21 international Reyes getting his tenth of the season. Eto'o's consolation goal was a mere anecdote, and his side lose ground on their rivals. (27.05.03)
