The league is back, with a
few new faces and a lot of old ones. Our early leaders are from teams who have
already played official competitions, both European and domestic, and have
therefore got a head start on the rest. That includes Villarreal's
Víctor and Calleja, both of whom scored twice in the club's successful
run in the Intertoto which takes them into the UEFA cup for the first time in
their history. Beckham, Ronaldo and Eto'o scored in the Spanish Supercup, and
all three scored again in the league at the weekend. Beckham of course got the
first goal of the league season within two minutes of kick off, much to the
delight of many of his many fans, and to the relief of the club who paid so
much money for him. Otherwise though it was a disappointing start, with only 17
goals in the ten matches, well below average. Still, it's very early days yet.
