There seems to be no
stopping Real Madrid on the goal scoring front. Following their seven against
Valladolid last week, they scored another four against Marseille in their first
game in the Champions League and then three more at Málaga at the
weekend. Ronaldo got two midweek and one at the weekend to move to the top of
our chart, and Figo and Beckham also got their names on the scoresheet with
dead ball kicks.
Ronaldo will have to do well
though to keep ahead of Pandiani, who appears to have taken over goalscoring
duties (and the number 7 shirt) from Roy Makaay. The Uruguayan striker got
another in the last minute of Deportivo's match against Albacete to keep up his
record of a goal a game, and also scored his side's only goal in the Champions
League midweek. Kovacevic is also a contender for the Pichichi title after
slotting away a penalty midweek, although he now has a serious challenger from
his own side, Oscar De Paula, who was transfer listed in the summer but who
came on as late substitute to score two more on Sunday. Elsewhere Bruggink and
Etxeberría both added to their tallies as well. (23.09.03)
