The Pichichi title is
already starting to look like a two-horse race, even at this early stage of the
season. Both Ronaldo and Pandiani scored twice this week to open up a three
goal gap on the other contenders, the former scoring twice against Espanyol on
Sunday and the latter getting a penalty in Europe and a club record sixth goal
in consecutive matches in the league.
For those statistics buffs
amongst you, if Pandiani gets a goal in the next match he will be only the
fourth player in the history of the league to score in each of the first seven
games of the season. the other three being Vilanova (Hércules, 1939/40),
Pruden (Atlético, 1940/1) and more recently Quini (Sporting, 1979/80).
Nobody has ever made it to eight.
Elsewhere Kovacevic moves up
to third in the table after getting an early goal against Galatasaray midweek
and another at the weekend. Meanwhile Víctor and Milosevic both got
their fourth of the season this weekend, and four new names enter our chart,
Tiko, Assunçao, Darío Silva and Oliveira, all with three goals to
their names to date. (06.10.03) |
