Lots of action in the last
couple of weeks, with goals all round in the Copa del Rey, UEFA cup and day
seven of the league. Between the three competitions, Spanish first division
teams scored no less than 91 goals, and that doesn't count those scored by
Valerón, Raúl and Reyes (2) for Spain last Saturday.
With Valencia's game still
pending, all the first division clubs but Athletic Bilbao and Albacete made it
through to the next round. Sevilla hit seven at Cerro Reyes with three from
Hornos on his debut and two from Darío Silva, but the other 19 teams
only got 37 between them, not a big tally considering they were playing teams
from lower divisions.. Mallorca's Correa did get a hat-trick though, and there
were goals for Raúl, Víctor (the only penalty of the lot),
Bodipo, Tiko and Ronaldinho.
In fact Barcelona are
starting to rely heavily on Ronaldinho, and he scored three more in his side's
8-0 drubbing of Slovakia's Matador Puchov in Wednesday night's UEFA cup tie.
Eto'o also got a hat-trick in Mallorca's win against Apoel, and he appears to
be a happy man now that Luis Aragonés has returned to manage the side.
Elsewhere Sonny Anderson came on again as substitute to score and help
Villarreal through against Trabzonspor, and Mista did the same for Valencia.
Mista's goal got him a start
at the weekend in the league as well, and he scored two more to stake his claim
for a regular first team place. He moves up to fourth in the table, still three
goals though behind Ronaldo, who takes the lead after scoring again at the
weekend. There were goals too for Etxeberría, Luque, Bodipo and Eto'o,
but Pandiani didn't get his name on the scoresheet and his record run of a goal
in each of the first six league games of the season comes to an end. (20.10.03)
