It was back to work as usual
for Spain's footballers after a two week lay-off for the festive season, with
24 goals on the opening weekend of the new year. Eleven of those came in two
games though, with Luque and Diego Tristán scoring either side of
Víctor's hat-trick as Deportivo La Coruña thrashed their Galician
neighbours Celta 0-5, and Baraja getting two and Mista another as Valencia beat
their local rivals Villarreal 4-2. Riquelme was one of the goalscorers for the
visitors, and he is one of the new boys in this week's table together with the
aforementioned Baraja and Tristán. The top two though are still the Real
Madrid pairing of Ronaldo and Raúl, and this time it was Raúl's
turn to get his name on the scoresheet, a goal which takes him level with Hugo
Sánchez as his side's third best goalscorer of all time. (05.01.04)
