Pichichis

A blow for Real Madrid at the weekend after Ronaldo pulled up with a hamstring injury which could keep him out for a couple of weeks or so. With Raúl carrying a knock and rested at the weekend as well, it appears that the long season is starting to take it's toll. The team who have been at it the longest this year is Villarreal, and after coming through the summer Intertoto they are now progressing through to the latter stages of the UEFA cup. Sonny Anderson and Riquelme got their names on the scoresheet again against Galatasaray on Wednesday night, and now they must face Roma next week.

The highest scorers in the league this weekend were Espanyol, who may still pull off a trick Houdini would have been proud of if they can escape relegation. Tamudo scored two of their five goals making it seven in the last five matches for the Spanish international striker. Valladolid pulled away from the danger zone with four at Bilbao, Oscar González getting his tenth of the season in that game. The club have just signed a new striker Bakari to replace the injured Makukula, but with Oscar in the side, do they really need him? Elsewhere Eto'o got his first goal in the league in eleven weeks, and David Villa led his side to their third win in a row with a late strike against Málaga. (08.03.04)
