The midweek European games
involving Spanish sides didn't trouble the scorekeepers, with both the
Champions' League semi final between Porto and Deportivo La Coruña, and
the UEFA cup semi-final between Villarreal and Valencia ending without goals.
With Marseille and Newcastle also finishing 0-0, only the game between Monaco
and Chelsea produced any excitement.
Sevilla continue to be in
the news on the goal scoring front, and if last week it was their Brazilian
star Baptista who became the first player this season to hit four goals in the
league, this week they were on the receiving end as Zaragoza's David Villa
repeated the act. Even so Villa's four goals were not enough to win the match,
Baptista himself scoring a penalty as the two teams drew 4-4.
Mallorca's Correa also had
his scoring boots on, the Uruguayan forward getting two goals to take his side
out of the relegation spots. Nihat and Fernando Torres also got their names on
the scoresheet, but in their cases to no avail as their respective sides lost.
The injured Ronaldo still tops the table of course, but he was sorely missed
this weekend as Real Madrid lost to Barcelona, Kluivert scoring his first
league goal in three months. (26.04.04) |
