The Spanish cup kicked off
midweek, with disappointment for many first division sides. Reigning league and
cup champions Valencia and Zaragoza, and league leaders Barcelona were amongst
five top flight teams to be knocked out, and the twenty teams only managed 26
goals between them despite all playing (albeit away) against lower division
sides. On the goalscorers front, Fernando Torres added to his tally as
Atlético cruised through, and the Pichichi from three seasons ago Diego
Tristán got a couple to prove he has recovered from his injury. Real
Madrid's Michael Owen was also on the scoresheet, and he made it four in as
many matches at the weekend in his side's 2-0 win over Getafe, a game in which
Ronaldo got his 50th goal for the club.
Fernando Torres got another
at the weekend as well, and he is now third in our chart. Eto'o stays a goal
ahead of him though as he got Barcelona's only goal in their 1-1 draw at
Athletic, and Liverpool target David Villa followed up his four last season
against Sevilla with two more this weekend, including one from the penalty
spot, to take second place. The top three have opened up a two goal gap over
the rest, who could hardly muster a goal between them in another low scoring
weekend. Only Oliveira added to his total, and he enters our chart for the
first time (and also gets a mention in the villains section as well, but that's
another story!). (01.11.04) |
